Emotion Control

Emotion Control Is A Contender For Joy

Tell me what you think. Is this the coolest cover,  depicting the man Simon Hagan—the main character in my debut novel, Eastbound From Flagstaff?

How about another opinion? How I do I control emotion associated with finally getting the cover for the book that I have been working on for 15 years?

I don’t! I won’t! Why should I?

The emotion is akin to taking my first roller coaster ride or succeeding in my first baking experience. There is simply no point in trying to wipe the smile off my face.

Being published is a grand success. Being published is causing me to have to scrape myself off the ceiling. I am calling that accomplishment “frosting on the cake” because it is. Fiction writing is emotion in a category all by itself. Once my manuscript was accepted for publication it became a contender for extreme joy. When the edits and the rewrites were finished, emotions were right over the top again.

A Wounded Core

Simon Hagan is an 18-year-old who is forced from his home by guilt over a tragic event. Awaiting him is the lure of the big city of Detroit in the early 1920s.Providence seems to guide him. Courage and perseverance push him to continue. It’s the thrill of the next caper, the Mafia, the roar of the 20s, the detour to the other side of nowhere: Arizona.

Simon is seeing it all through the eyes of a man wanting to love a woman. He’s running from a lie. His is an instinctive state of mind deriving from circumstances — the need to survive.

Every Reason To Give Up

Eastbound From Flagstaff answers a thought-provoking question: What have you done to continue when you had every reason to give up?

It’s a love story based on my father who had a lot of reasons to cower in the face of adversity.

The strong contender that emotion plays in the ups and downs of daily living often hits home. Simon is eager for the high life. He guards his heart by falling in love with his pursuits. His is a courageous climb.

That’s my book. And who couldn’t use inspiration for living? It just might take your breath away!
